Living in Elder Road in Cobridge she could be regularly seen walking from there into Hanley where she was first an operator and then a Supervisory on Directory Enquiries (DQ) at Vale Exchange. She was, as all Supervisors were at the time, a force to be reckoned with but with that came a kindness and consideration for the people around her. Having never married it was around the time of her mother's passing, for whom she was devoted, Jean moved to Ash Bank Road in Abbey Hulton and again could be seen walking in to Hanley where she still worked.
The closure of the Vale & the Hanley DQ centres saw her take the opportunity of early retirement and what better place to keep up her love of walking that with the STAR's which she joined in the late 1990's.
No doubt we all have memories of Jean and in researching this short note I have seen a side that I for one never really appreciated.
So please take a few moments to keep her in your thoughts and maybe, if you are so inclined, say a little prayer on her leaving this world. |
